Adult Services
Our clients
Columbia Speech and Language Services treats adults for a wide range of communication barriers, including:
- Neurologically based problems such as stroke, degenerative diseases, and traumatic brain injury
- Vocal problems of teachers, singers, and salespeople who use their voices to earn a living
- "Cosmetic" speech therapy for reducing stubborn lisps or improving the sound of your voice
- Stuttering treatment
- Accent reduction
How we work with clients
Columbia therapists use a practical, hands-on approach that may include any member of a client's "team" - including, for example: family members, friends, employers, other therapists, insurance company representatives, physicians, and anyone else who is part of the client's life.
Treatment is available in our Vancouver office or at the clients' home, workplace, health care centre, or any other convenient setting. Fees are charged for therapists' travel costs.
How to register
Adults may contact Columbia and pay directly for services. Columbia does not require a referral from a doctor; however, extended health plans often do require a doctor's referral in order to accept a claim. We advise clients to check the requirements of their own extended health plans.
Fees for eligible clients may be covered by the Insurance Corporation of B.C., WorkSafeBC, Crime Victims Assistance Program of B.C., and a variety of employers, disability plans, lawyers, charities, and government agencies.
Columbia is the exclusive speech language pathology service provider to the Acquired Brain Injury Program within the Fraser Health Authority, a large geographic area covering Burnaby to Boston Bar.
